Juno Pups

Juno's pregnancy has been confirmed.   We counted 4 pups for sure and hope there might be a 5th that we couldn't get a good read on.   Pups are due January 27.   We are accepting one more reservations on this litter.

Eclipse's Pups have arrived

Eclipse's pups arrived this morning at 8:30am, right in the middle of a crazy snow storm.  Mom and Pups are doing great.   We have 5 girls!

Hershey has 6 pups!

The ultrasound revealed 6 Hershey/Baloo pups.  They will be arriving around January 7.  This litter is fully reserved.

Eclipse has at least 5, possibly 6, pups!

We had Eclipe's ultrasound last night and we saw 5 pups for sure, and possibly 6 pups.   It was pretty crowded in there, so hard to count.  All the fetuses we saw showed all the signs of great health that one can assess through an ultrasound machine.  We are anxious for their arrival in 3.5 weeks, on December 22.

Guinness's Pups at 4 weeks

As much as I love having cute photos of the pups, I find photos never really capture the look of the pup.  Unfortunately, just the way I'm holding them or the camera angle, can give them a different look than in real life.  Having said that, enjoy....

Lots of puppies coming in January

We are going to have 4 litters born within a month of each other!   We have Eclipe's litter due December 22, Hershey's due January 7, Aurora's due January 14, and now we will have Juno's due around January 25.   Eclipse's and Hershey's litters will be raised at their guardian families home and Aurora's and Juno's litters will be raised at my home.  Our reservation lists are almost full, so we have very limited availability on these litters.  If our ultrasounds reveal lots of pups we will be able to reopen some of the lists.

Why you shouldn't use the 'dominant down' maneuver on your dog

Although I like Cesar Milan's theory of dogs being the ultimate energy readers and responding to that energy, I am not a fan of the assertive-submissive approach to relate to your dog.    Personally I have no desire to dominate my dogs by being assertive and demanding submission.  In any case, they know I am 'pack leader' - I control all the resources and the things they love.  I control their food, their treats, when they go outside, when they go for walks, when they get snuggles.  They know.  Below is an interesting article about the 'dominant down' maneuver that Cesar uses quite regularly and why this is not an appropriate tool for training your dog.

A training philosophy I really enjoyed reading about is that used by Jennifer Arnold of Canine Assistants.  Her book "Through a Dog's Eyes" is an interesting read.

Guinness's pups at 2 weeks

The eyes' of Guinness's pups are now open and they are learning to walk.  They walk around aimlessly and look like bumper cars as they seem to move in no obvious direction, hit an obstacle (another pup), and turn around and head another direction.  They grow so quickly, they almost look too big to be nursing from little Guinness.

Wow, we are about to become VERY busy....

All our girls that are to have Fall/Winter litters have decided to cycle within a few weeks of each other.   Eclipse was mated with Spirit on October 25 and is due to have pups on December 23.   Hershey will be mated with Kodiak this weekend, November 9/10 for pups in early January.   And now Aurora has started her cycle and will be mated with our Zip (or maybe Spirit - can't decide!) around November 19 for pups in mid January.  Still waiting on Juno, but I expect her to start her cycle any day.

Eclipse and Spirit have mated!

Eclipse and Spirit have had two successful matings.   The pups are due around December 22 and will be ready to go to their new homes around February 20.    They will be 20 to 25lbs at maturity and will come in a range of marking sets, all in chocolate.  We expect chocolate/white parti, chocolate/tan phantom, and chocolate/tan/white tricolour.

Guinness's puppies - 1 day old

Killian's Irish Red

Killian's Irish Red (Killian) comes to us from a very small breeder in the US.  He is an F1B labradoodle in a lovely red colour.   He will likely mature just under 20lbs.   He will be bringing new genetics to our program, as well as allowing us to continue to produce some beautiful reds.   We are very excited to have him.

Chardonnay

We are very excited to welcome Upside Down's Chardonnay to Canada and to Canadian Doodle Puppies. Chardonnay comes to us from Zeewolde, Netherlands.   In exchange for Chardonnay, Canadian Doodle's Oria will be going to live in the Netherlands where she will be a breeding Momma.  Although an international exchange sure entails lots of paperwork, it is wonderful to be able to bring some European lines to Canada.

Time to get blogging again.....

With puppies on their way at the end of October, it is time for me to get blogging again.   I always get a little lazy when I don't have pups in the house.

Guinness was successfully mated with Down Under's Hot Sake on August 23 and 24.  Guinness and I drove down to North Carolina for a natural mating.   The pups will be born around October 21 to 23.   We are accepting 2 more reservations at this time.   That may increase after we do our ultrasound on September 18.

Next up with be Hershey and Juno - not sure who will go first.   Juno is starting to get a bit moody, so that could mean a heat in the next couple of weeks.   Hershey will be mated with Kodiak and Juno will be mated with Spirit and/or Baloo.   I can't decide which boy to use, so I may just do a dual sired litter for fun!  We have a few spots open on these reservation lists.

We got another new stud prospect today.   His name is Killian's Irish Red.  He is a beautiful mini F1B labradoodle.   It is exciting to be able to add new genetic lines to our program.   Now if we could only find a lovely mini F1B chocolate boy!

We are still looking for guardian homes for Roisin and Nadira.   It looks like Oria will be going to the Netherlands to be a breeding dog there.  That will be an exciting new life for her!

Will post again after we have Guinness's ultrasound.
